Title:Clinical Yoga Therapy in the U.S.: Relevance, Recognition, and Career Utility Today
Speaker: Dr.Indranil Basu-Ray, VaYU Faculty MD,DNB (CARD),D.Sc FACP, FACC
Dr. Indranill Basu-Ray is a senior Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiologist and medical researcher based in Memphis, Tennessee. He currently directs the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory and Cardiovascular Research at the Memphis VA Medical Center. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Adjunct Professor at the University of Memphis School of Public Health.
Dr. Basu-Ray completed his medical education and cardiology training in India, followed by advanced fellowships in Canada and the United States, including at Harvard Medical School and the Texas Heart Institute. His clinical work focuses on treating complex heart rhythm disorders, and he has led the development of electrophysiology programs in several hospitals.
In addition to his medical work, Dr. Basu-Ray conducts research on the role of yoga and meditation in cardiovascular health. He has published extensively and is the editor of academic books on yoga in cardiac care. He also serves as an Honorary Member of the Faculty Senate at Vivekananda Yoga University.
Abstract: As integrative and lifestyle medicine gain traction in mainstream healthcare, clinical yoga therapy is emerging as a relevant and credible adjunct in the U.S. healthcare system. This talk explores the utility of clinical yoga therapy professionals in both conventional and alternative medicine fields. We’ll look at the current opportunities, scope for practice, institutional recognition, and how these courses can enhance one’s career in wellness, rehabilitation, mental health, and chronic disease care in the U.S. context.
