Title: Chakrology, Chakras Demystified: Neuroscience & Behavioral Correlates of Chakra.

Speaker: Nick Shroff, MD, FACS, E-RYT Professor, Research & Teaching Faculty, VaYU, President of the American Prostate Cancer Foundation (APCF)

Viewed through the lens of contemporary neuroscience, the Chakra System reveals meaningful intersections between ancient yogic theory and modern understandings of energy, vibration, and neurophysiology. Traditional texts describe chakras as dynamic centers of pranic flow that influence physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. These centers are characterized as oscillating, semi-autonomous, rhythmic bioenergetic fields associated with neural plexuses, endocrine activity, and autonomic regulation.

Interpreting the nadis as subtle analogues to neural pathways and examining how cognitive patterns, behavioral habits, and yogic practices influence these centers helps connect traditional philosophy with emerging models of mind–body integration. Emotions expressed in the chakras are often felt as physical symptoms, as in somatization.

While neuroscience primarily focuses on anatomy and has yet to fully incorporate quantum or energetic frameworks, the Chakra System offers a complementary perspective that emphasizes vibrational fields, coherence, and the interplay among consciousness, neuroanatomy, and physiology. Research has highlighted the benefits of yoga in supporting balanced energy and promoting psychological well-being.
